Parent Education
Learning Together
Current research is clear that sound parenting is THE most powerful tool we have in preventing mental illness and distress. To that end, I regularly take time from my clinical practice to offer small-group parent education courses that promote the principles of non-violent communication and democratic family life.
Tips and techniques for managing children’s behavior are abundantly available to parents with access to a bookstore or a search engine. But these strategies very often fall short when applied without a clear understanding of our roles and what we are trying to accomplish as parents beyond behavior management. While Adlerian parenting courses do provide an abundance of tools and strategies, they also offer parents the opportunity to find an overarching philosophy that guides them not in just managing, but in fact, developing their children.
The courses are presented in a multi-session, experiential workshop format and are limited to 8-12 participants. In this way, the course can evolve to more accurately address the specific concerns of parents present. Contact me to join or host a group of parents interested in learning mutually respectful, non-punitive tools for developing harmonious homes and kind, capable, contributive children.
